Think You're Their Only Option? Think Again

Think You're Their Only Option?

Think Again

Are you sure the candidate you are pursuing is focused on you and not your competition?

You want them to remain engaged, excited, and chomping at the bit to learn more.

It’s the personal touch that will make you stand out.

Consider these options I personally used when I was an HR Executive and now recommend to my clients:

✔️Take the finalist to an informal meeting, such as lunch or dinner.

✔️Spend quite a bit of time sharing the goals for the role, the department, and the company itself.

✔️If relocation is involved, offer to introduce any family members to a recruiter to ease the burden of searching for a new role.

1.    Understand the Business Inside and Out

You can't be strategic if you don't know where the business is heading. As an HR leader, I made it my mission to understand our company's strategic plan, market position, and competitive landscape. I attended strategy meetings, pored over financial reports, and regularly met with executives from other departments. This allowed me to anticipate future talent needs and proactively plan our workforce strategy.

Be creative. Here are some out-of-the-box ideas my clients created:

💡At dinner, the hiring manager ordered dessert to go for the candidate's children.

💡For a confidential candidate, the hiring VP met the candidate for lunch in a beautiful park near their location.

💡Gave the candidate time to meet the CEO or other executive who is not usually in the process; this was a 10-minute handshake meeting, and the candidate knew this was added just for him/her.

Have some fun! Make yourself stand out! A little extra effort goes a long way when candidates are interviewing with several companies. 🏆
